KMix isn't visible in the menu

Hi !

I run GNOME in Ubuntu. KMix isn't visible in the program menu although it is installed. I can see it in the list of installed programs in Add/Remove Programs. It should be visible under Applications -> Sound & Video. I can start Kmix from inside the recording program KRec. It's possible to start KMix under the Tools menu inside KRec.

How to make KMix appear in the GNOME menu?

I have followed the instructions in the Ubuntuguide.

First I installed the Smeg Menu Editor using using the sudo apt-get install smeg command in the Console

Then I refreshed the GNOME panel with killall gnome-panel

The Ubuntuguide says now Smeg Menu Editor can be started in the menu: Applications -> System Tools -> Smeg Menu Editor. But there is no Smeg Menu Editor in my menu. I can se an application named Applications Menu Editor but no Smeg Menu Editor.

Why doesn't Smeg Menu Editor turn up in the menu after installation?
