KMail + firefox problem

SuSE 9.1 Pro, KDE 3.3.1 Firefox 1.0 Trying to get KMail to use Firefox as the default web browser for links in received mail.

Googled, and found that if I changed the text|html file association in Control Center so that KDE uses firefox as the default browser.

However, initially KMail was sending Firefox the a cached url, so firefox would complain that it couldn't find file /usr/var ...etc.

Googled, and found that the command line in the application details in the file associations appalet required firefox to have the argument %u after it. i.e

Code:

/home/iaross/installations/firefox/firefox %u
This is what Mozilla has, I checked.

However now when I click on a link to (say) h t t p: / / w w w .someurl.com in KMail I get the message

Quote:

KDEInit could not launch '/home/iaross/Installations/Firefox/firefox h t t p : / / w w w.someurl.com
Errrr Help?

Check to see if you have single quotes around the command in the HTML file association part of the Control Panel - if so, remove them. KDE seems to put them there by default, but it tends to work better without them :)

Cheers,

Well that sort of worked. Now at least firefox opens, and loads the relevant page.

However...... If an instance of firefox is allready open, I just get the bouncing icon for 30sec then nothing.

But it is certainly an improvement... THANKS!

I guess I have to live with this behaviour?
