Kmail File Locations
Does anyone know where kmail keeps the e-mails and the attachments. I cannot find them in the home directory, even turning on hidden files. The Maildir contains no e-mails. I already checked there. And a search in the forum and Google produced no results. I may have been using poor search terms.

I don't use kmail, but in $HOME/.kde4/share/maps/kmail are these directories:
~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail> ls mail drafts inbox outbox sent-mail templates trash The first hidden directory assumes using KDE4. If not look in the .kde hidden directory instead. |
I use Mint which is a form of Ubuntu. Mint uses the gnome desktop interface.
I found the Kmail application at: /usr/share/apps/kmail But there were no inbox, or outbox folders or files. I also searched for "inbox" which returned only graphics with the word "inbox." I "have show hidden files" turned on. I also found the the following: /usr/share/kde4/apps/kmail Hold the phone! Here it is: /home/q/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/inbox Strangely this did not come up in any searches. Thanks! I wouldn't have found it without the clues you provided. |
A desktop application will save things in your home directory. It doesn't have permissions to write to /usr/. An exception would be temporary files under /tmp, or a service using /var/.
