hey all, it's good to be back again... gone for a while.

once apon a time I had kismet and a bunch of other things up and running thanks to your help. I decided to pick up my laptop again after a while and learn again as I used to. so here's the first of probably many conundrums... thanks for your help.

Fedora 9
I installed kismet via the software installer (nice new interface)
I have my regular user as my suiduser=<insert user here>
I run the program from my home user home directory
here's what I get:

Launching kismet_server: /usr/bin/kismet_server
Will drop privs to kismet (495) gid 488
No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled.
Non-RFMon VAPs will be destroyed on multi-vap interfaces (ie, madwifi-ng)
Enabling channel hopping.
Enabling channel splitting.
Source 0 (intelWP): Enabling monitor mode for ipw3945 source interface wlan0 channel 6...
Source 0 (intelWP): Opening ipw3945 source interface wlan0...
FATAL: socket: Permission denied
Done.

no matter what user I put in the sudouser, I get the same message. Any thoughts? Thanks

The setuid user in the configuration file is the user that Kismet will drop to once it has configured the WLAN interface. You still need to start Kistmet as root to get the hardware going.

i do start it as root. i've run it under the root account, as well as used the sudo kismet command. I think it has something to do with dropping down privileges. Any thoughts?

how 'bout dem apples... I figured out that it was the SELinux policy that was stopping kismet from being run. made a new policy to let it work and vua-la!
