kinternet log in SuSE 8.1

I am a newbie to Linux and am trying to migrate from Windows 98. I use the kinternet 'plug' icon to connect/disconnect to/from the internet.

As I am limited to 50 hours per month internet use, I need a log to
show date, time connected, time disconnected, duration of call,
cumulative total since start of month. I note that, if I right-click
the 'plug' icon I get a 'View Log' option. If I click this I can see
the log for the current day (only) with a very detailed blow-by-blow account of when/how I was connected to/disconnected from the net, with an opportunity to save this to a file.

I need the record for a month, do not need this detail (which would give me a record a mile long[!]), and need it to save automatically.

On Windows I have an Internet Log Timer which gives me the information I want in the form I want it. Does anyone know of a similar device suitable for use on SuSE 8.1?
