kindly suggest , its urgent.
Hi All,
I am having DG33FB Intel Motherboard with 160 SATA IDE HDD Drive and 2 GB RAM. I want to install Linux RedHat/Fedora/Ununtu if possible. If anyone has already done this, Please suggest how the problem could be overcome. I tried RedHat 9 / RedHat Enterprise Edition Server 5.1.In both cases it is not detecting hard disk. Kindly suggest asap, as its urgent requirement. Regards to all. |

I will "kindly suggest" that you check the mode on the SATA controller in your BIOS. |
Try using Ubuntu, Suse or Debian as I believe their kernels offer larger support out of the wrapper for more motherboards/chipsets.

RedHat 9 is totally obsolete and will not support SATA.
Enterprise Server---I don't know. A recent version of Fedora or Ubuntu should be fine |
You have just lucked out on the versions you DID try. RH9 does not support SATA at all and 5.1 poorly at best. If you try a distro that is more recent, you should have better luck.

A newer RHEL5 should work fine. Forrest |

No, if you got it working in 5.1, then (from my experience), it worked great. It was if your particular controller didn't work. This is true with most types of hardware in Linux. At first only a few work, then more and more, then they have great support. For 5.1 we were still in the "more and more" stage.
