Amazon advice if Kindle Fire Isn't Recognized by Computer

'For Linux: You will need to install an MTP USB driver.
An MTP USB driver is required for your computer to recognize your Kindle Fire. For more information about Linux MTP USB drivers, contact your software manufacturer.'

I cannot make a connection with USB cable so can anyone advice me with regard to MTP USB drivers and where I can download them from. Has anyone else got this issue with kindle 8.5 my old kindle 7 opens up OK

Have you tried using Calibre? It's a sort of iTunes for ebooks. I'd think it should be able to handle the Kindle fire. I had to tweek my version to access my original Kindle keyboard.

That's if you're only accessing ebooks though. Other files...? Meh.

I've no idea if it's available for Amazon's version of Android but there's an Android App called Wifi File Transfer which turns your device/tablet/phone into a file server. When it's connected to your home wifi router and activated via the "start" button in the App, you just point your laptop/desktop browser (connected to the same router obviously) to 192.168.0.n:1234 or whatever is indicated by the App to let you access all the files from your browser. Loads easier than sorting out cables and drivers. :)

Yes I have Calibre and I use it to convert files but I dont think it will open the Kindle directly which is what I want to do. I have Wifi File Transfer butI was just interested to see this on the amazon web page. My kindle 7 connects Ok but my new 8.5 isnt even seen. I like to use both and it is annoying when an expensive device does not work and of course being a newbie I did not understand what they were saying

What Ubuntu are you running. I am sure youtube or the net has a solution already posted. Or you can search for yourself.

I am using mint but only for 3 weeks so in the dark rather if I don't understand the answer as with MTP USB driver above!

I don't know about Mint or Ubuntu, but Debian has a package named mtp-tools that has the necessary drivers. Since Ubuntu is based on Debian, and Mint is based on Ubuntu, therefore Debian, perhaps they use the same package names.

Is your device set to MTP mode?
I once had a similar issue with my old android tablet, linux picked it up fine but for some reason the MTP mode on the device was not enabled.
Anyway if that doesnt work, mtp-tools will do the job.
