kickstart installation without Network boot CD

Hello:
Is it possible to install CentOS via kickstart server without first booting the client from a bootable cd media? Like on Sun platform, on OBP level, client can boot from a kickstart-like (jumpstart) server and proceed installation.
Thanks.

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

It is possible in the following situation:

1. Your system should have pxe boot rom.
2. There should be a server holding the bootable ISO image of CentOS (with kick start file)
3. At the time of booting when it sits at linux prompt enter the location of your kick start file.

Other then this method I am not aware if there can be any other method to achieve it.

Another method is you have to use atleast a bootable USB drive to atleast get to linux prompt where you can mention the location of the kickstart file.

I hope this helps.
