keyboard problems in X

Hello everybody!
LQ has been extremely helpful for me int he past couple of days when I was setting up my Mandrake box running. It has been running flawlessly.
I downloaded the sources for kdegames but it wouldn't install because of missing. After googling I tried compiling the newest sources for X86free and after doing all the steps (make World; make install; make I rebooted. That's when my keyboard stopped working in X, I can't login using the GUI or ctr-alt-F1-F7. I can still use the keyboard in failsafe console mode. I tried changing the xf86config with many settings without having much luck.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Best Regards,

Also I forgot to mention that the mouse is fully functional while my PS/2 keyboard isn't even responding to the capslock key (strangely enough it does respond to numlock). I'm completely out of ideas after trying many configs and asking many people on IRC, my only other option right now is to go all the way and download Slackware, just so I would have a steeper learning curve but hopefully it will also be faster. I am a very fast learner so I'm not afraid of the challenge.
