Keyboard/Mouse not detected
 

Dear All,

I am using RH9, uptil now, my keyboard and Mouse were working properly, day before yesterday one engineer take my PC to configure it in domain and for that he has attached another keyboard and mouse, and that mouse and keyboard are working fine, now he has attach my keyboard and mouse again to pc,but Linux is not detecting either of the Mouse or Keyboard, so what i should do to detect my keyboard and mouse again into the PC?

That's certainly odd behavior. Is there anything obscure about your setup, are you remote booting, or running an NFS root or anything like that? If your mouse/keyboard were working, and the only change was to how the network was setup, my guess is that something in the kernel was changed for this network adjustment, and whoever changed it forgot to add in support for a mouse/keyboard. If you have the system setup to use SSH, you could SSH into the box, rebuild your kernel to enable support (or even just poke around the logs and dmesg to see if any messages pop out about your mouse/keyboard). If not, you could boot from a liveCD of some sort and see if they work there. If not, then you've narrowed it down to a hardware issue/bios issue (probably).

a couple of years ago i had a problem with my mouse and someone pointed me to xorg.conf. this is where all the perameter settings for devices like mouse and keyboard are. i have no idea where that file is located though. seems like it was somewhere in X11.

Thanks for the prompt reply first of all, and thing i think is not that, actually the user who has taken the PC for the network configuration has connect another keyboard and mosue apart from the mine, for which there is an entry in the Linux, and Linux has made entry for the same, and it has delete the entry of original keyboard and mouse, but still some strange behaviour is Linux is also not taking the keyboard which was used by the person who has configure the network, so i think i have to made the entries for the same in the linux file, refer by "AmphetaminePhreak" in another post of this thread, but i dont know where this file is located, and he also doesn't know where this file is located, do you know where this file is located, then i think i can change the entries in that file for original mouse and keyboard, actually it is my thinking and i want to try this once, if it doesnt work then i will try the method told by you.

Thanks for the information, but as i tpld you i am not able to log in because it is no way possible, cos Linux is not detecting any of the keyboards.

oh shiziat, that's right, lol.

That's why you'll either want to remotely access the box, or get real fancy and drop some modified files onto a bootable CD and have them auto-copied over your existing ones. If you were to get this fancy though, it would be far easier to just use a LiveCD and use your keyboard to modify those files.
