Keyboard Locks up at boot screen

My keyboard locks up at the boot screen and I cant get anything I have a gateway with an AMD Athlon 733 and my keyboard is a multifunction keyboard and I am running Mandrake 9.1. Can anyone help. I want to run windows XP and Mandrake. I had the same problem with 9.0 and I thought 9.1 would have fix the problem.

Is it a graphical boot screen? Could be a video card problem.

It's a graphical boot screen and I don't think its a video card problem everything loads fine and when I get to the screen I click linux and it says press enter to continue setup but my keyboards not responding.

Is it a USB keyboard? I'm not sure if USB keyboard support is turned on by default in stock kernels...

I'm not clear; have you already installed Mandrake, or are you in the process of trying to install it?
