Keyboard freeze at boot loader

I've dual booted my machine with mandrake 8.1 and winXP. I chose Grub as the boot loader. The keyboard doesn't work with the grub screen, so I can't choose between linux or winxp, it just loads the default screen after the time limit. Right now the default is linux. Of course, keyboard, mouse both work fine in linux, just not at the grub or lilo screen. I can change the default to win xp, but then I won't be able to get back into linux. My keyboard is on USB. Also, same problem occurred with mandrake 8.2, i went back to 8.1 to try and fix it. Any ideas?

Does your keyboard work before the GRUB. Try removing the keyboard physically and then see the response of your system. I doubt if it can be of any help though.
