Unhappy Keyboard fails or respond eraticly

I have Dual installed Red Hat Linux 9 to a WIN ME gateway. The install seemed to go well along with the partitioning and I can now dual boot BUT... the keyboard either fails to respond or at seemingly random intervals works but the "hangs" about half the time and repeats endlessly. Keyboard came from gateway and is USB ( Mouse is USB also). I have rebooted, reconfigured and reinstalled, no luck. It took me an hour to log in to Linux using trail and error and the mouse to "cut" away the excess characters when the keyboard worked. I have tried the keyboard setup options to no avail. I have change mouses and USB port for both keyboard and mouse. The keyboard work fine in Windows and dos.

Need Help

PS be gentle this is my first tym
