Keyboard does not echo........
 

Hello,
I am new to Linux an I've recently installed Mandrake 9.2 onto my slave drive and running it from there. I had the system up and running and then when I tried to log off to shut my computer down the prompt would not appear. So I shut it down manually. That was the only thing that I did diferent.(this has happened before)Now when I try to log on I'll get the log on screen but there's no echo. In other words, when I try to type in my login name and password the keyboard won't respond. So I'm forced to shutdown manually again, could this be the cause of my problems? And more importantly, how do I regain access to my computer?

what type of keyboard is it, does the keyboard respond
while you're in e.g. the BIOS?
