keyboard

This must be a very newbie question: I installed redhat 7 and marked the keyboard as US 101 keys (I counted them, and it seems to be 101 indeed). However, when I try to use the BACKSPACE button, it works as a DEL button. Is this a general Linux feature, or is there a way to make it real backspace?

solved the problem

just for those who are interested in my solution: I reinstalled redhat but used the text installer instead of the graphical one. There you only can choose the type of the keyboard only by US. Then everything works fine.
