kernel question
 

I have 2 kernels on my machine (2.4.21-27.EL and 2.4.21-27.0.4.EL). What is the effect of using one versus the other? If I installed an rpm under 1 version and reboot and select the other, will that rpm still be loaded?

My other issue is my tcp connectivity is working fine with kernel 2.4.21-27.0.4.EL, when I switched kernels I could not ping another server, but ifconfig looked correct.

Yes rpm works i have 2.6.22 and then i installed 2.6.16 and all external rpms which i installed r working fine.
For ur second problem check .config whether u have selected all required network configurations. u can use ur old kernels .config for that

so I boot to 1 kernel, write down the contents of .config, boot the other and compare the contents of .config?

Where is the .config?
