Kernel Panic with USB stick as >only< linux partition(s)
Soo.. I've given up on getting Linux to work on the old laptop..
I'm back home with my system, and I still can't make any installation boot properly. both Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS dies with a kernel panic, killing init something. Well, Since ubuntu had a completetly distorted loading screen I cant be sure, but it hardlocked the system as well. Both, when they start off LiveCD, work just fine, except for a very stupid installer in Ubuntu, wich erased MBR of a harddrive without asking... PCLinuxOS has an installation optionm, stating USB as target media, and it installs and partitions nicely. But it dies with a panic, and hardlock when booting from it. What the heck is wrong? :/ My BIOS, is AMI-Bios and it emulated the USB drive, as a harddrive, and putting it on the SCSI channel. I have also tried flipping the "removable bit" effectively Windows thinks its a real harddrive now, doesn't state it as removable, and enables cache. It did not affect Linux however. Would running the stick in forced USB-ZIP mode be a solution? it will end up on /dev/sda so Linux too thinks its a harddrive. (even with removable bit normal) ... Now what? >_< |
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do. Are you trying to dual boot on a laptop, or create a bootable usb drive?
Good luck. ;-) |

Not really trying to dual boot, just forcing USB-boot with F8 in bios. (It ignores all other drives temporarily and boots off USB) It works, but then it panics, whatever that means... |
Could you post the panic error please?
Good luck. ;-) |
