Kernel Panic When Probing for NIC in Slackware 9.0 install
 
I have been using this guide to install slackware on my P1 with 48mb of ram for use as a DC++ hub. I was at the point of installation where it probes for a network card (mine is an old ISA SMC 8216 series) and a kernel panic happened. What could have caused this and how can it be avoided on my second attempt?

I'm buying a bunch of network cards so hopefully the problem will be fixed. If not, I will try installing the card after installation is finished.
