Operating system : Windows10 Home

VM Ware : VMware-workstation-full-7.1.6-744570

Ubuntu Versions tried : ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-i386

Ubuntu Versions tried : ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386

With both versions, I am getting same error.

Can some one try to guide me how can I avoid this error. Kindly let me know if any other details are required to assit me here.

There isn't quite enough information.

What other messages were displayed?

4G memory on a host appears a bit on the small side to run VMs. How much memory was allocated to the VM?

Out of 4 MB ram, I have tried keeping - 512 K and 1MB memory for VM. But the same error is seen.

In my install directory, I have seen that lot of files are getting created (.vmx; .vmsd; .vmem; .vmsn; .vmdk)

Please let me know, if there is any specific file which I can provide you to debug this error.

Also, please let me know if there is a way, I can provide screen shot of the error.

I think you mean 4GB and 1GB, not 4MB and 1MB.

There is no version of Windows that will run with 4MB memory, and almost no Linux version either - though some of the embedded versions can run.

Ubuntu requires a minimum of 512MB (you really want 1GB or things really run slow due to paging), and 5GB for permanent storage (and you really want something like 10GB).

Yes, the panic screen capture is needed. It may not be a memsize issue (512/1024 ok)
In VirtualBox, there's "Take Snapshot" (might you try VBox instead?)
Look into: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/470838 and here
Also maybe: When booting Ubuntu, press any-key (space) then press F6 and try options like nolapic

Thanks jpollard and Jjanel for your prompt and quick response.

- I am mistaken. Thanks for correction.
Yes I have tried keeping 512 MB and 1 GB of memory.
I have dedicated 20 GB space in VMWare settings.

I have taken screenshot of the error seen. Please find the attachment. Kindly let me know, if any other information is required.

Did you try the boot option "nolapic" (which I asked above)? See here for howto.
(or does it not get as far as those "Ubuntu CD Welcome Page Options" screens?)

This shows your panic (from web-search: panic "native_write_cr4" )

Awaiting your response....
p.s. IF not, might you try VBox, just to get 1 more 'clue'? (It's quick&easy)
