Kernel Panic: no Init found
I'm Using Redhat Linux 9.0.
I am using this on single hard disk. By mistake The computer turned off. Next time i turned it on it is giving following error : Kernel Panic no Init found try passing init= parameter to kernel The computer hangs. How can i solve this problem from grub. Give me options for saving the changes made. Thanks in advance |
Probably the hard disk was corrupted. Try reinstalling Red Hat
|
yeh! Great solution!

gbg,
Do you have a better one? |
I have exactly the same problem... and looking for a solution! Understand my post reply now?
|
I understood it then. It wasn't very helpful. You could have written your post better.

it might only be mbr screwed, try typing the kernel image thing with root= option:
example if the boot image you select is labeled linux do the following linux root=/dev/hdXX replace hdxx witht he correct root partitoon/drive |
I don't remember what the grub screen looks like. I have it set to boot to linux and don't look at it. Does it have any options for set up?
Sometimes grub gets messed up and isn't looking on the right partition for the kernel image. |
Try pressing
c to get to the command-line |
BTW, do you have a rescue disk?
gbg started a thread here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=85524 |
In my expereince that error message means that the RH installation was set up incorrectly, in which case you need to re-install. Or there is a problem with HD/SCSI drivers. Are you using SCSI or SATA? I have not been able to get RH9 installed using SATA.
--Hope this helps |
Oh yes , I was able to solve the problem by rescue disk.
I booted the system with the CD and There was this initrd folder missing so i created that folder. I rebooted next time. It was all done. Now its running fine. Thanks a Lot :) |
I just got a similar problem yesterday.
the cause is that I was trying to update my Mdk9.0 to 2.4.22 (BIG MISTAKE, install Mdk 9.1 instead). I've also tried to upgrades some other rpm before rebooting. So I spent my last night making a frech install of MDK9.1 (did not work after 2 tries (3hr total waste). This morning I restarted MDK9.0 installation wich I know work well. The solution: I did not get a real good resolution but I remember having seen one in the Kernel How-To... Maybe you can take a look even if by now I bet you reinstalled everything. Count on me, I'll print that how-to for the next crash !!! I'm still wondering why 9.1 installation did not goes right (installation seem ok but when I choose either kde or gnome at login, the computer seem to run for eternity some files I don't know. It was not finished after 5 hours of sleep. It's why this morning I was so pissed off and that I decided the best thing (fastest way) was to reinstall 9.0. I hope It will be ok when I return from work. If you ever find a quote of the grub/lilo recuperation, please post it. |
