Kernel Panic Issue

Hello.

I have a box running Debian 4.0 Etch with 2.6.18. I unplugged a network cable from it's NIC card and I received a Kernel Panic Error. What can cause this.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Well, from the information you have given us, I suspect the kernel panic was caused by the network cable being unplugged.
I suggest you leave it plugged in... or post more information on the messages you see!

Unplugging a network cable would not usually cause a kernel panic unless the card was not onboard and was disturbed in it's slot.

Does this happen every time?

@Tuttle - PMSL at your response!

This had happened a couple of times already. I unplug the cable to test the connection on another box.

Which NIC card is it. I have heard of some PCs kernel panicing when ethernet cable is removed but it's more to do with a bad NIC driver than anything else if it's an onboard one.
