Kernel panic in loading Mandrake 9.1
I'm loading Mandrake 9.1 on an old computer (still pretty fast with 128 Ram and a 400 intel processor)..
I get a messabe after RamDIsk 'Compressed Image found at BLOCK 0 Then KERNEL BUG at page_alloc.c:210 '0f 0b d2 00' etcetera (I mean dozens of similar code?) Then the final line reads KERNEL PANIC: ATTEMPTED TO KILL INI! I also tried to load redhat and the same error message.. The disks are good as I'm running Mandrake on another pute'... When I tried to load windows 98 It just FROZE on FILE ALLOCATION section in the scandisk pre-install. I have a feeling it's a virus..(and if so how do I get rid of it?) Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks so much.. |
Getting problems installing Mandrake AND installing Win98... sounds like you have some bad hardware somewhere...

I saw this problem on my RH7 box when I added a new stick of memory that was bad.??

You were right BIOHACK & BURKE... I opened up the pute and removed a memory stick and VOILA!!! Thanks so much!!!

Hey lordevereste...
Any chance it was a Gateway machine?? Seems many Gateways take special memory with a different latency. I priced the memory for mine from Gateway and it was $70 per 128 Meg...ouch.. |
Bah, I remember when that would have been a bargain!
