Kernel panic (i think)
 

Well i've been having a problem that my computer randomly completely freezes. A while ago, it happened again, but i wasnt able to log back in anymore, getting this screen when gdm tries to load.

Are you -sure- you have a good CPU, motherboard and RAM?

It seems as if something has been corrupted - which could have been caused by bad RAM.

Alternatively you might have had a hardware failure... do you dual-boot? Does the system work in Windows?

If all of the above are not applicable, see if you can run a memory check - this is usually possible to do off your distro's install disk (at least in Fedora there is an app you can run that will check your memory.)

I once had much the same types of failures and it turned out to be bad RAM that was slowly corrupting my entire installation.

I second the bad ram idea. When it happens its usually very random. Try to take out some of the ram sticks, run the computer and see if it stops.

If it still happens I would start to unplug or hdd's and anything else I could to see if the problem stopped. Then add them back piece by piece.

I had the problem before because my video card wasnt seated well. It worked but would randomly crash or freeze.

First thank you both for your replies. I dual boot with windows 7 and have "no problem", no hardware problems at least xD.
So i think it may be something on the partitions? Honestly im quite lost, idk what to think. Tho i have the idea that
the random system freezes happent while on a call on skype, but i'm not 100% sure bout that.

I would do some basic test, test your RAM with Memtest86+, you HDDs with the diagnosis tools from the manufacturer. Check you CPU temperatures and check if the fans of CPU- and GPU-cooler are clean and running. Check temperatures.

When you say "on a skype call," are you saying you have your webcam on when it happens? And what distribution are you running? I recommend using a program like cheese to see if it is your webcam that kernel panics your system, along with what the other two guys said and recheck your hardware. I would also take your computer fully apart, checking all connections and slots, and reseat everything just to be safe. As far as the RAM issue, I would run Memtest86 to check everything out.
