Hi, I'm having problems installing slackware 8.1 or even booting a rescue disk. I loaded the installation cd-rom and it panicked on me when it tried to boot. I also got the same message with the boot floppy.
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
I might not know a whole lot about linux, but I can say that killing init isn't good. The trace codes and whatnot are just a bunch of hex values. I'm using a Duron 1.3GHz, which I thought was x86 compatible so the architecture shouldn't be an issue. The memory isn't the problem, either -- I tried and got the same result with new memory. Any help would be really appreciated, I've read all the posts about kernel panics here and nothing seems to help. Thanks a lot for your time.
