Unhappy Kernel panic after updating to 2.6.10

I was able to install Fedora 3 on a system with a HighPoint SATA RAID controller. However, after I downloaded and installed the latest kernel (2.6.10), the system won't boot up anymore.
Actually, everytime I upgraded the kernel on a system with 'third party' controller driver installed, the system always failed after reboot. Can someone please tell me how I can reload the HighPoint SATA RAID controller driver before/after I reboot the system?
What do I have to do to install a new kernel and have the system bootup with those 'third party' controller driver?
If I have to recompile something, can you show me how?
I don't have any problem in updating the kernel with the IDE hard drive.
Thanks for your help.

The instalation of the new kernel may have missed some configuration on the sata support, to recompile a kernel of your own you should download the latest version from www.kernel.org and look for a tutorial on compiling a new kernel which is kinda hard if you have never done that before, but there are a lot of tutorials around which can guide you trough it and some special ones for sata drivers
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_SATA
here you can look how to add sata support when compiling the kernel, I hope this gives you a little help, it got my sata drive working great
