Question Kernel Panic

hi,

I am trying to compile 2.6.23.1. It is compiling but while booting I am getting some thing like following:

Uncompressing kernel... ok. booting kernel

Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while ...

No volume groups found.
No volume groups found.
No volume groups found.

mount: error 6 mounting ext3.
mount: error 2 mounting none

switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed:2

Kernel panic: not syncing: Attempted to kiil init !

Any suggestion

Needs to be exact.

Does it say stuff like:

unable to find volume group "VolGroup00" ...

Have you seen:

Can you still boot the regular kernels?

A shot in the dark here but as a guess I would say that you didn't compile the file system modules into the kernel (made as modules instead) and didn't create an initrd file to load the modules during boot.
