Kernel Panic
Hi guys,
Im trying to run Redhat linux9 on my pc.I have installed the Linux 9 successfully several times but when ever i try to boot it get stop on a black screen with a message saying <o>Kernel panic:attempted to kill int!.I just started with Linux and have installed several times.always it get install successfully. Here i have type a part of the message. *pde=00000000 oops:0000 CPU:0 EIP:0060:[<c010ab2c>]not tainted EFLAGS:00010002 EIP is at disable_irq[Kernel] 084c(2.4.20-8) Code:ff 50 10 ed od 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 <o>Kernel panic:attempted to kill int! (also im running windows xp in my computer) |
Try a more recent distribution (eg. Fedora 9).
Red hat 9 is already 5 years old, it is likely that an older kernel (2.4.20) would not work well with new hardware, or that it contains bugs that have been fixed since. |
I will warn you that RedHat 9 is very old. Perhaps, try setting up Ubuntu, or one of its spin-offs (Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc.)
I've usually seen this happen when using a kernel with an initrd image - no idea why it would be doing that, though, on a fresh-outta-the-box install. Usually, it waits for you to do a package update or compile your own kernel before you start getting kernel panics. |
