Kernel, initrd, error messages

In building initrd for a new kernel, these messages appeared. What do they mean, and do they need to resolved? How?

1) Could not find the filesystem module for root device /dev/sda2 (reiserfs)

2) Version requires old depmod, but couldn't run /sbin/depmod.old: No such file or directory

When you ask these questions it would help out a lot if you would say what distro, version, and arch.

In another post about errors with make and the same depmod error message, a LinuxQuestions member said to

Backup your current /sbin/depmode.

this stoped the error message about not being able to find depmod.old.

1) Why can I use the same version of /sbin/depmode but just back it up? Shouldn't the error prevent me from using the same version that it complained about?

Tried to boot kernel

I tried to boot the kernel. It did not boot.

1) Why would the previous error be about not being able to find the filesystem module? I included reiserfs in the kernel. How can I find out if it is in the kernel? Is there a command that I can use to do so?

2) How can I load the reiserfs module with the kernel if it is not builtin? Is there something else that the module needs that I need to load as well?
