ok i wanted to install my sagem modem

i read up on it and it said i had to install the kernel sources first

so i downloaded these and tried to install when i did this i got this message..

error: Failed dependencies:
gcc >= 2.96-98 is needed by kernel-source-2.4.20-8

so i went and i downloaded gcc 2.96-98 when i tried to install that i got this...

error: Failed dependencies:
cpp = 2.96-98 is needed by gcc-2.96-98

so i went and i downloaded that aswell when i tried to install that i got this message

Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package cpp-3.2.2-5 (which is newer than cpp-2.96-98) is already installed

now i dont know what to do i am using Redhat 9 any help would be greatly appreciated as i am now very very frustrated

I would install gcc-3.2.2; it's probably on your installation CD. What you need is gcc newer than 2.96 so 3.2.2 should do fine.

the other option is to uninstall cpp and then intall the old version but this might not be such a good idea.
