kernel-headers package?
 

I have installed Suse 9.1 with kernel version 2.6.4-52-default. In my effort to figure out how to get off the ground with Linux (ie: have access to enough functionality in Linux to switch to primarily using it instead of Windows 98), I've been trying to set up the various device drivers needed.

It seems apparent that a kernel headers package needs to be installed, but I'm not sure where to obtain it or which to obtain. I have already installed a kernel-source package. I have seen various RPMs for download with "kernel-headers" in their names, but not one that obviously matches the kernel version I have (ie: something with "kernel-headers-2.6.4-52" in the name). Is the catch that the kernel headers are not updated as frequently as the general associated source code? How do I know which kernel-headers package to install?

I feel like I'm missing something, as it seems there has apparently already been a lot of discussion about kernel-source and kernel-headers. However, I haven't been able to find an exact answer yet.

it will be on your suse cd's. it *might* be called linux-headers or similar. you should only use the exact one provided on the distro, as mismatches can potentially cause compiled software to break
