kernel ehternet card

I ve Red Hat Linux 9 and I just compiled a the 2.4 kernel with the src from the rh cd. I want to have the module for my ehternet card included in the kernel. But the problem is I don't know if it's already in the kernel or just loaded as module. When I look in the "modules.conf" file there is the line "alias eth0 3c59x". And the "lsmod" command shows this aswell. Is this a part of the kernel or just a module? The Card was installed from Anaconda. If possibel how can I include this in my linux kernel????????

Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!!

Well, lsmod is a command to list modules and modules.conf is a file to load those from at boot up. So with that in mind, you can assume this is a module running. If it was built in, you wouldn't need to load it as a module.

I always prefer to load them as modules, easier to handle in certain situations and so on.
