open the .config file in a text editor
or
run make menuconfig (or xconfig etc..) from running kernels source tree root.
Both these options assume you haven't changed and saved anything new in the config since the last full compile.

the config options are stored in a file called .config in the kernel source directory. Like above poster said easiest way is through make menuconfig or make xconfig.

There's also an option (at least in 2.6) for the kernel to display its gzipped config file in /proc/config.gz. It's not enabled by default, though, and no distro I've seen enables it.

kernel options
i should've mentioned that this is an out-of-the-box redhat 8 installation, sorry. i can't locate any .config file.
any idea if the 2.4.18-14 kernel shipped with redhat 8 was compiled with "IP: advanced router" and "IP: policy routing" options? the only other option would be to compile a 2.6 kernel.
any advice?
thanks again
