Kernal panic oh no

I get this error when I start up my computer in linux there a bunch of stuff and then It says kernel panic: no init found.Try passing init=option to kernel

jailbait 09-09-2003 03:44 PM

"kernel panic" is Linux's last words when it dies. Look through the "bunch of stuff" for any error messages that might explain what in particular the problem is. If you don't understand the error messages post them here and we will try to debug the problem.

nuhn123 09-09-2003 05:47 PM

differnt partition

OK I tryed a different partion and it now says this
VFS:cant find ext3 filesystem ondev (3,6),
mount:error 22 mounting ext3 flags kenel panic no init found, try passing init=option to kernel

jailbait 09-09-2003 06:26 PM

It sounds like the file system on your / partition is broken. One way to cause this problem is to turn off your computer without going through the shutdown procedure.

In any case the solution is probably going to be to reformat the / file system which means that you will have to do a reinstall.

how

ho0w can I shutdown when It freezes at that message? I was just wondering

"ho0w can I shutdown when It freezes at that message? I was just wondering"

You can't. If an improper shutdown error happened it was probably the time that you went to a command prompt but didn't know what to do. If you booted or powered down instead of using the shutdown command then that probably messed up your file system.

So whenever you get back to a normal system, the proper way to shutdown from the command line is one of these commands:

shutdown -r now
reboots

shutdown -h now
powers off
