kernal log

OK so I have no idea what this is.. I've been asked to look in my kernal log. Where is it? Does dmesg print out the "kernal log"?

Thanks,

jb

The log is nomally in /var/log/messages.

The dmesg command also contains a portion of this information; it has a limited buffer and information will scroll out of dmesg.

Check in /var/log. Some distributions log kernel messages to /var/log/kernel.log by default, otherwise you may want to configure your syslogd to do that.

In Mandrake 2005LE the kernel is sent to /var/log/kernel/info
