Kensington USB mouse not working
 
I have just installed Slackware 11 on my new pc:
ASUS Crosshair,
AMD A64 X2 5600 2.8G AM2 CPU
2gb RAM.
I am trying to configure my Kensington Optical Elite USB mouse. X starts but I can't move the cursor. After searching around here this is the latest modification I tried to xorg.conf:

Sorry, here is the error I get: "xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse"
I also tried "/dev/input/mice" and I get a similar error: "Cannot open device "/dev/input/mice".

Try changing your
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
to
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
That may work. If not try running mouseconfig and select the appropriate options. Hope it helps.

I'm having the same issue, USB mouse on Slackware 11.

My xorg.conf:

I have tried your suggestions with no success. Now I get a blank screen. I also tried lsusb and nothing is listed either.

I also tried mouseconfig again. Oh well, maybe I'll try another distro and copy those config files if they work!

Tried what you said and I get:

Type these commands and post results:

/sbin/lspci | grep Display
ls /dev/ | grep mice

ls /dev/ | grep psaux
ls /dev/misc/

Are you sure you type commands correct?

Type these commands and post results:

To load driver for most USB mice and other USB devices:

su -c "/sbin/modprobe usbhid"
To load simple USB mice driver:

You should type root password when program "su" asking.

Maybe pakcage udev (or other package) is not installed.

If package udev is not installed (result of command "ls /var/log/packages/udev*" is empty) do this:

chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.udev
/etc/rc.d/rc.udev start

But I accidentally hosed my Slackware partition with dd ;). I will try to get some time to reinstall later this week! I appreciate your willingness to help us newbies.
