KDesktop error message

I'm using SUSE 9.2 on a dual boot system with win98SE. Each system is on a seperate hard drive. As Linux finishes booting up and the desktop appears, the following window pops up:
Error KDesktop
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'devices'.
[click "OK"]

Then the desktop completes loading. I click "OK", and everything works fine. This message popped up after I had tried to make some minor (I thought) changes in the Desktop under Control Center. I went back and undid all the changes but I still get this message. Keyboard, mouse, trackball, and Epson printer that SUSE found, installed and configured work fine. I installed an Epson 2480 Scanner and Dazzle multicard reader (another interesting adventure) and they work fine. How do I find the process that is causing this error? It is, thus far, only an irritant, but still...

I'm not real good with the in's and out's of Suse, but here is a link
that answers your question:

or maybe here:
(same solution)

Worth a try, and hopefully it'll work.

I love it when it's simple! Your 2nd link, the SUSE Linux site provided the answer. That did the trick, and thank you very much!

how did you do it? i have the same problem and tried that so-called solution. rebooted and -smash- "error, could not create...". so i ran the kpersonalizer wizard which screwed up my desktop settings and changed the theme to something stupid looking, rebooted and -smash- "error, could not create...". i don't see what those Novell folks are talking about. is there something else i need to do?
