I just installed pardus with kde4 and there's the ability to have "widgets" but i can't seem to scatter any files across the desktop. There're files in my /home/rabbit/Desktop folder but they don't show up on the desktop. I just want to know if this is just how kde4 is supposed to work?

It seems odd if it is. I think the whole point of the desktop is to have commonly used files and programs just laying about...

right click on the desktop -> select "configure desktop " from popup menu -> in the "behaviour" panel , "general" tab there is a option to show/hide desktop icons.

Thanks. It was slightly different from what you said:

right-click
desktop settings
change "type" to desktop folder view

I'm liking kde4 better now. I like that each desktop acts independently. And I might try a desktop dedicated to a certain folder of work. It seems each desktop can display either /home/rabbit/Desktop or ANY folder I like :-)
