Sounds like that's what's happened.

What logs should I look at to help determine my problem?

/var/log/XFree86.0.log and ~/.xsession-errors

Any ideas on how to fix? I have another machine setup exactly the same. I was thinking I could just copy over the lib directories under /use and /opt/kde3 and that would fix it. Is this a waste of time?

In the long run, this would probably cause more problems that it solves; you'd be better reinstalling all X-related packages through RPM first. Also, try running SaX2 (as root) to see if YaST can rescue your X server.
