kde wont load in LinuxMint 15
 

I am running LinuxMint 15 on an HP Omni (AMD 64 cpu). I downloaded kde using apt-get. There were no error messages during the download or the install. Now when I boot, I see the LinuxMint tiny logo and then the screen goes blank. I have tried booting in recovery mode (used all the options without any success) and the only piece of information that I got out of that effort was a terminal message that said something about starting ... and then stopping ... The message was gone before I could read it all. The only access I now have to Linux is the root prompt in the recovery mode; which doesn't recognize any directories other than Desktop. And all I ever get is the same blank screen.
Any suggestions?

When you have the blank screen, try Ctrl-Alt-F2 (3-key combination). This should give you an alternate text-mode login screen.

Login with your username and password and check the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log for lines starting with EE which indicate X-Windows errors.
Also check /var/log/syslog for other errors. Post back here with error messages or if you have questions.

Were you using a gui before, when you downloaded?
