KDE will not display correctly after installing Slackware 10.2
I have a Dell Dimension 2100 I got back in 2001. I have a generic video card built into my motherboard. I recently installed FC5 (with no problems), now I am installing Slackware 10.2. I partitioned my hard drive and performed a full install. Everything installed with no errors. I log in as root (at the darkstar login), then I type startx (at root@darkstar) to run X.
However when KDE starts, my display is messed up. All I see is a gray bar (with some other colors) across my monitor. When I move my mouse the image changes a little bit so I figure everything else installed correctly. I tried different display settings during setup process, but nothing helped. Being desperate, I even tried to hook up a different monitor but to no avail. I installed Slackware about 4 different times, but I keep getting the same results. After googling this problem, I keep reading that some people have to modify the xorg.conf. I'm not sure how to do this (and to tell the truth I do even know if that is really my problem). Does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this problem? |
what modification suggestions have you found?
there is a log in /var/logs for Xorg see if it has anything good. |
I think that I found my problem, I didn't even run xorgconfig (DUH!) I found a good tutorial if anybody else is interested.
