kde vs gnome

Extreme newbie question here. I've been browsing these forums here and the consensus is gnome over kde. My question is - besides personal preferences in terms of looks, what are the advantages of gnome over kde - less resources, more options, ease of use, etc.?

Hard cold numbers are probably going to be pretty close in terms of resources et al. Personal preference is going to be the #1 answer to this sort of debate. Versatility is just about equal with the exception that gnome uses different wm's.

Options are the same, since you can use both in each other. Everything's equal when it comes to un-biased descriptions. It's the personal preferences that make up the rest of the differences.

Oh, and a search will reveal just about everything you'd ever wanna know about the 2

Cool

personally speaking...

i found kde to be a little more windows like, and gnome a little more not-windows like...
i started with kde, but have now moved to gnome
but in redhat8 (from my own inexperienced point of view) there ain't too much difference....

sorry if i've just upset loads of people who swear by one or t'other
