Post KDE system guard

Hi.

First up, I'm very new to linux so explain slowly

I've installed Mandrake 10.1. Since configuring my eth0 nic I've lost the ability to access the KDE system guard.

When I open it, it requests the connection type to localhost, when I select ssh, it reports that localhost cannot be found.

I then tried System Monitor 2.6.0 and that work fine.

What are my next steps to getting KDE system guard running?

Regards,

Gary.

P.s

The file in my /etc/sysconfig/network reads:

HOSTNAME=bert
NETWORKING=yes

there is a file /etc/hosts
in mandrake it might be someplace else
it needs as the top line 127.0.0.1 followed by all of the various things the machine might call itself for loopback connections
here is mine as reference only two machines on the network
Code:
127.0.0.1	lisa.sourcery.net  sourcery.net  lisa  localhost.localdomain   localhost
192.168.0.1	lisa.sourcery.net  sourcery.net  lisa
192.168.0.2	bart.sourcery.net  bart

Sweet that fixed it.

Aside, the Manadrake control centre keeps crashing.

This is the 3rd fresh installing and I keep getting the same problem, is the control centre really buggy? Or is this my machine?
