kde not starting
I am running mandrake 10 and after the drivers and services are loaded up and the system tries to load kde, the screen flikers and then gives me a commmand prompt login srceen. I login and try to launch kde again. it still dosent work and gives me an error saying "Fatal error: could not open default font 'fixed"' I have made sure that there is an .xinitrc file that says: "startkde", but nothing works! Could someone please help me fix this problem?

There's a general problem with your X setup if
the screen flickers repeatedly (3 times?) and you're dropped back to the console. Check your /var/log/XFree86.0.log to find out what the problem is. Cheers, Tink |
Good answer.
However, it sure sounds like my problem with Mandrake 10.0 last week. It plainly says it is a fontpath call-out problem. Google for XF86Config-4 for your model, as an example, and edit yours for different fontpath and see if that helps.

Tinkster, I have already found out what the error is, the system could not find the default font.
