KDE freezes with RenderAccel enabled?

Hey guys Im trying to set up my graphics acceleration on my HP Pavilion notebook. Im running Suse 10, and have an Nvidia Geforce 440. Heres a part of my xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce4 440 Go 64M"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
#Option "RenderAccel"
#Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
Option "NoFlip"
#Option "NvAGP" "2"
#Option "NvAGP" "0"
#Option "NvAGP" "3"
#Option "NvAGP" "1"
Screen 0
VendorName "NVidia"

Section "Extensions"
#Option "Composite" "Enable"

The problem is when I uncomment the lines Option RenderAcell, AllowGLXWithComposite, and Composite Enable. At first KDM would freeze before I could input a username or password, so I seting up KDE to do an automatic log in. Now I can run KDE with a noticable difference, but it will still freeze if I launch certain apps (KDE Control Center, for example). Does anyone know why enabling renderaccel would freeze KDE? Even if the only line I uncomment is the "Option" "RenderAccel", it will still freeze.

Is this a known bug with the latest NVidia drivers?
Thanks guys

I don't get the same response as that i.e. I've got the same section in my xorg.conf, but if I actually try to use anything too fancy like shadows and translucency the graphics memory of my card struggles like hell and slows down making anything graphic vvv slow on the screen redraws and similar so I just switched off.

I got as far as considering a new graphics card with more memory (current geforce 4 mx420 has 64 megs) - but I'm too lazy to get any further (oh and the screens did look smart as hell with the shadows and translucency switched on - but it was taking like anything from 5 to 30 seconds to reload/redraw the next screen).

Is this the same problem you're exeriencing ?????

Hey thanks for the reply, but as far as I can tell, even with translucency and shadows enabled, KDE still performs OK. The only problem so far is that KDE will crash when opening up the Control Centre, and I am forced to reboot.

I have similar problem, i can run xfce with renderaccel on, but kde freezes at the splash screen. With it on, I see little improvement of my glxgears scores. Any help appreciated.

this is a bug either in the driver or in xorg
it appears to effect everyone
we will just have to let them hash it out and for now turn of RenderAccel
(and wonder why we aren't using xfree86)
