KDE: Default Executable File Icon

Hello, everyone.

I am running SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional with KDE 3.1.1.

I noticed yesterday that the default icon for executable files is no longer a KDE gear; instead, all of the executable files have the KWrite icon!

I am extremely confused and I wonder if this oddity could be a symptom of something serious.

Could someone please tell me how to restore the proper default KDE gear icon for executable files?

Thank you very much, in advance! :)

Cordially,

David

Right click an executable with this icon and see if there's an 'Open with...' menu about halfway down. This should have some option with ...s to allow you to change which app is the default, or what else appears in the open with list.
Another way is via the KDE Control Centre. It's the file associations sections iirc, near the top.

KDE: Default Executable File Icon

Hello, Proud (Member)! :)

I used the KDE Control Center and reverted the default icon for an executable file back to the KDE gear.

Thank you very much!

Did you change the actual action which is run too, not just the icon? BE sure you did, or scripts wont run, they'll just open. I think you must have already. :)

Hello, Proud.

I selected the file type of executable and then I changed the icon from KWrite's to the KDE gear icon (the default).

I did not change the icons for any scripts, however, because the shell script icon did not get changed like the executable file icon did (and I have no earthly idea what caused the change).

I think I am okay now. :)

Cordially,

David
