KDE automatically copies selected text (suse10.2

Im using openSuse 10.2 and in KDE when i select text with the cursor or when text gets selected, I find KDE automatically copies this text. I can see how this would be useful, but sometimes its really annoying, such as copying a URL, and then clicking on the box to paste it into the browser automatically copies about:blank which is already in the field and then when I paste it just pastes about:blank instead of the URL I previously copied.

I just wanted to know if there was an option in KDE to disable this automatic copying? if so where is it?

Thanks for any help in advance :)

Hi.

It's not just KDE which does this. It's common to every XWindows environment I've used (GNOME, KDE, CDE, Fluxbox...). The 'Ctrl-C' copy shouldn't be affected if you select text after copying, though, so doing 'Ctrl-C - Ctrl-V' works as it does on Windows.

Klipper?

I use openSUSE 10.2 too...

I don't see the same behavior you two see...

Tried playing with klipper, and I found that if you change the setting to separate selection and clipboard it gets rid of this behavior. While you have the klipper settings open, you can look in the help to see KDE's Clipboard structure (such as the selecction thing in separated mode) In short, what the klipper does in separated mode is take your selections and puts them in a separate history place instead of putting it directly in clipboard, and you can place any of these selections to the maximum of your history by right clicking klipper (the K in the System Tray) and selecting a selection. Then you can paste that selection anywhere.

ah cool, ill give it a go changing the klipper settings then, cheers I didnt think of that because I disabled it from running in the tray, but im guessing that the changes made to it stay after it is closed. Thanks

sorry to bring this back up, but ive found that you can change this setting in Klipper, then it will act as I want, but when Klipper isnt running it doesnt, is there a way to keep it system wide not only when Klipper is running? Cheers
