KDE 3.2: Kopete automatically launching when I enter X
I love it. My system boots in almost no time at all. But starting X: another story. KDE 3.2 loads quickly, but it takes foreve until the system is useable because Kopete always launches as soon as KDE is up and running. Any Idea where there would be a seetting to change this? It's not in Kopete's menus anywhere, and google/searching LQ didnt return anything useful.

I'm not familar with Mandrake, but last time I sat in front of a Mandrake box there was a command (control? forgot what Mandrake calls them) pannel labled "Startup" that had a bunch of programs in it.
Or, alternatively, if you don't use the program in question you could just remove it's package, then you'de be set. |
I'd look in ~/.kde/Autostart (that's the Autostart folder in the hidden .kde folder in the user's home directory-- turn on "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in Konqueror's View menu if you can't see it).
That's where KDE puts shortcuts to all the "extra" programs that it is supposed to run at startup; send any Kopete shortcut to the trash, or delete it (it won't hurt Kopete). Or, as suggested, you could uninstall Kopete entirely if you don't want to use it anyway. But in the case that you do, we should probably get to the bottom of this, as even an uninstall/reinstall might not solve it if it is something in your personal settings (which would probably be preserved rather than deleted during an uninstall). Hope this helps. |
thnx motub, worked liek a charm :)

Been awhile since my last post.
Motub: it worked for one reboot, now the bastard is auto-launching again... this might help some: Code:
[scuzzy@localhost scuzzy]$ cd .kde |
BUMP
|
Tried going to "KDE Control Center" - "Components" - "Session Manager" and select "Start with an empty session" ?
