Post Kde 2.1.1

First off I would like to say linux documentation sucks. I can understand why, but never the less it sucks. Or maybe I'm not looking in the right places. This is probley a real easyone for you all. Okay so here's the deal. I have a child panel open at the top of my screen. I put a whole bunch of applets on it. when I log out and log back in all the applets disappear but the child panel is still there. I have just spent the last 3 1/2 hours trying to figure out how to make them stay. I found a kickerrc in ~/.kde/share/configure. It had all the applet list on my parent panel and then it had an exstention listed as childpanel or something. what I figured is I have to edit this file, but I'm not really sure what to add. any help would be great.
