Ok, sorry about this really dumb question, but i cant figure it out. i was sitting at my comptuer and the desktop was fine, but then i left for a couple of hours and when i open an application or something, there is something in the bottom menu saying what it is and you can minimize it and such, but no when i open someting there is nothing there and when i minimize it it goes away and the only way that i know something is open is by going alt+tab. if anyone knows how to solve this problem please let me know.

That sounds like something that you've got set in your kde control centre, you'd have to have a look through that to see what you've got set up to do what.

i.e. change something, note it down, apply the change and try it. Then if you don't like whatever "it" does, you can just change it back.

Or you maybe able to right click on an empty part of the task bar, and then look at the dialogue window you get when you "configure panel" it could be there (though you are actually modifying the kde control module anyway).

kde is bloated, buggy and doesn't work to well. I would suggest fluxbox or gnome.

Dunno about that tearinox, I've never had much in the way of problems with KDE, but like much in the linux world, it has lots of options to change just about everything, except your underpants and even though the whole kde download comes to about 175 megs or so, I doubt that that's as bad as windows.

Horses for courses.
