Kali is main OS, can't boot Ubuntu from live USB

hello, i am newish to linux. i stupidly put kali as my main OS and now i want ubuntu as my main but to be able to dual boot kali still. its on an HP pavilion laptop, i have both a kali and ubuntu live usb drive, just they wont boot for some reason. please help! ;D

Have you successfully booted form USB before?

If not, check the BIOS/EFI settings to see whether boot from USB is enabled and has priority over boot from hard drive.

If not, please provide more information, including the precise model of the computer and what error messages, if any, you see when you try to boot from USB (or does it just boot directly to the installed OS?)
